im so excited i scored tix to (tuesday 8/14) THE MAGIC NUMBERS at el rey theater.

i hear BEN HARPER is performing at the sunset junction festival! i used to get to go for free since we had friends that lived on the street the stage was on - but that has changed. i think its only like $14 to get in though. worth it for me since its basically drunk stumbling distance from my pad.

waiting for MICHAEL MCDONALD to start selling tix to the greek theater show 9/28.

I went to THIS www.list.co.uk/article/2474-trocabrahma/ it was fantastic...until my mates got kicked out for doing freestyle capoeira in the middle of the dancefloor...it was like Breakdance 2 Electric Boogalu all over again

tell me about the time set, i dug those guys "back in the day."

i'm not a fan of ben harper AT ALL, but if you dig him, he owns a folk-oriented instrument store in the claremont "village." you should check it out.

it was his grandparents place who passed. i thought the store had shut down, i am happy to hear he is still keeping it open..

my gf is from the area and grew up w/ben's crowd so i knew the store was a "hand-me-down." i didn't really get to go in there, they were having some performance last time i was in that part of claremont, but it looked like a "homier" spin on mccabe's (santa monica--where i grew up.)

i think he might have caught a lot of flack if he hadn't kept the store open (that's just my uninformed opinion, though.)

have you seen ben harper before? he's good stuff. especially live.

true story: my brother has a BIG love of ben harper. took a girl he was dating to a harper concert. ben harper is a serious, spiritual kind of guy. a quiet moment happens, a hush falls over the crowd. suddenly the chick my brother is with screams out "BEN HARPER IS GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

ben harper looks directly at her, frowns, and says "kind of a lot of pressure, don't you think?"

my brother said he wanted to melt through the floor on the spot. ha!

i have seen ben harper like 8 or 9 times....

i swear i have heard that story before!! maybe you told it to me. but i totally feel like i saw it or heard it myself. . . do you know if the show he was at is on one of his live cds or dvds?! that is too funny.

i have a similar story : iron & wine is very mellow and quiet (& total amazing show) and my friend brought a friend who kept SCREAMING shit like "you're fucking hot!" or "i want to fuck you WOOOO!" it was insanely embarrassing. i moved (luckily it was general admission) to get away from her. she left when he said into the mic "could you please stop ruining this for everyone else? and if you loved me so much, you would know i am married."

HAHAHA! i love it when they just call people out like that.

i had a friend who was a punk skater girl when she was younger. billy joe kicked her and her friends out of a green day concert for starting fights in the front row. heh.

saw him live last night and it blew me away. i had never seen him but been a fan for years.

the whole show was good, but the end song "cheers darling" was amazing. it was like a performance piece with just him and a bottle of wine (actually a guy dressed as a waiter serving him wine) while he smoked a cigarette and told the story of why he wrote the song. que the song. que snow falling on stage and him staggering offstage.

            fantastic!

my favorite concert memory is of smoking dope with Gwar in the tour bus at 15.

I dunno how my sister and I always got backstage as kids. Jim Heath snuck us into a show during the Liquor In The Front tour.

she certainly wasn't a tween starfucker.

...maybe y'all just seemed cool? i think everyone likes to think they're nurturing the next generation of "cool people."

One night I hung out with Angelo from Fishbone all night and smoked weed and talked about music and politics and shit... it was awesome.

Plus the concert was fucking amazing. Probably the best pit i've ever been in.

didja know that one of their guitarists, john bigham, used to also play with miles davis?
he's doing an al green meets hendrix trip now (soul of john black) and he sounded pretty good last time i heard him.
