I thought I'd covered this before but apparently not.

God help me, but Achtung Baby is a nice comfortable album

Re: I raise you
Tue, July 1, 2008 - 2:39 AMjourney: that better be "jonathan cain" period journey (the earlier stuff was tunes carlos santana wished he'd gotten out of them.)
patty smyth: yeah, that one is kinda hard to defend other than "...hey, i like it." (hang head in guilty shame)
pat benatar: ouch. i used to have a crush on her and i'm not into that one anymore... (wow, you're an honest bloke!)
jump: aw man!!! come on--it was fun! i'm taking the "achtung..." defense on this one (although van halen was never that important--can i claim "local love" on this one?)
was alan sherman the horn-rimmed glasses, musical comedian? "hello muddah..."? -

Tue, July 1, 2008 - 4:35 PMbingo re: Alan Sherman.
There are some crosses that we get saddled with early on and we just have to carry those fuggas.
I have no shame. Can't afford it.
My indefensible death-grip on Journey guilt extends all the way through Forever Yours and slips out the back door right on into Oh Sherry (Perry's solo... career).
I can uh ah er sing it, pretty well.
koff koff Men Without Hats koff pardon. -

Re: I raise you
Wed, July 2, 2008 - 6:24 PM*hats* off to you for your honesty...
"safety dance?" ouch.
i used to take a lot of heat for my love & knowlege of "fusion" -- then it started getting sampled a lot. :D i think just to mess with people i might sample some fuZAK (aka late 80s+ jazz-fusion/"contemporary" jazz/"smooth" jazz) and make it BANG...

Re: Guilty pleasures?
Tue, July 1, 2008 - 2:32 AMi know it always seems like i'm disagreeing with you but...
"achtung..." is just a good album. i really like that they got tired of being "the most important band in rock" and (imo) just wanted to make music people would listen to again cuz...
...they liked it. -

Re: Guilty pleasures?
Tue, July 1, 2008 - 3:19 AMI don't mind your spirited debate!
Yeah, Achtung is good, I think Eno produced it
and it's okay and all..it's just associated with the
whole u2 'brand' that makes it embarrassing to
have in public view.
Also, ...hm...I was going to say that
guy who did "Don't Worry BE Happy"
but I can't even remember his name so I guess
I don't listen to him *that* much, huh?
Mc-somthin'..McFerrin! that's it.
Bobby McFerrin. -

don't worry, be guilty...
Tue, July 1, 2008 - 3:24 AM...sigh.
bobby is SUCH a talented guy and he just practically got strung up by that freak hit. you should hear his LIVE version of "blackbird" (beatles) where he's got about 4 parts going on (quick switching) and it's just him, a mic and the crowd... (from "the voice.")
his son (taylor) does dance music -- samples his own voice instead of records. -

Re: don't worry, be guilty...
Tue, July 1, 2008 - 4:01 AMHa...'don't worry be guilty'..there's hope for you yet, Senor!
yea, I meant that I've heard some of his other stuff and was blown away but to most people
he's known as that Be Happy guy. Not that I'm even aware of other people's opinions
of me I just ...well..whatever...
Zooropa was produced, again, by Eno...the last big album with him..he even sang or something on some of the songs.
"Brian Eno's primary credit is as a producer on this album, although he also appears as a performer/contributor on several of the songs, including "Babyface" and "Lemon"."
They did some other things with him, Original Soundtracks?
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orig...ndtracks_1
Which I haven't been able to get a copy of...and ? hm something else.
million Dollar Hotel is surfacing in my mind for some reason.
...
'Pop' was their next top 40 album..after zooropa...and was produced by flood.
As the title suggests they re-enter mainstream music with it. -

Re: don't worry, be guilty...
Tue, July 1, 2008 - 5:45 AM<Zooropa was produced, again, by Eno>
if i remember correctly a lot of the stuff was done while they were on tour for "achtung?" eno can bring out some really interesting things in artists--occassionally he makes hits, too (i would think kind of by accident.)
<Pop' was their next top 40 album..after zooropa...and was produced by flood.>
flood was the engineer on a few of their albums, no? also i think he has a connection to the orb--but isn't he originally from killing joke?
"pop" should have been called "pLop." man that was a horrible record--and i'm an electronic music fan. it almost felt like taking all the interesting stuff out of "zooropa" and making an album.

brand U2
Tue, July 1, 2008 - 3:31 AM...can i get a (non-tour) t-shirt? ;)
i guess that i'm glad that they are just a band now, like radiohead. the guys may individually do some great things (bono's poverty stuff is great) but it's not wedded to the band anymore and i really prefer it that way.
i think musically, they're a little lost now. "zooropa" was their "here my dear" as far as i'm concerned and nothing after has been as interesting although there have been tunes here & there (marvin's "midnight love" had some great tunes, but doesn't compare to "here my dear" as a total work.) -

Re: brand U2
Mon, July 7, 2008 - 5:36 PMUltimate guilty pleasure?
Listening to all that shitty 80's 90's songs I first
heard as a pre-teen.
I bought this album when it came out.
Father MC!!! WhoooHooo!
He was from the bay area I think.
